Ribbon Cables

At Express Assemblies Ltd, ribbon cables are a key area of manufacture in our industry.

A continual area of growth, the need for top quality ribbon cable assemblies is vital to the overall success of a product outcome.

A ribbon cable is a piece of cable with many conductors running parallel to each other on the same flat surface. This wide flat cable is then used to link many internal peripherals in various electronic applications.

The cables are then connected to IDC connectors [or insulation displacement connectors] which allow mass termination solutions and greater signal impact to electronic devices.

This is the most common type of ribbon cable assembly used in the industry.

At Express Assemblies Ltd, we specialise in using flat grey ribbon cable with a colour coded red stripe which is marked as such to prevent reversed connections.

We manufacture ribbon cables with a pitch or spacing of 0.05 inches (1.27mm) and a wire value of 28 AWG.  This is then crimped with a two row IDC connector with a pin spacing of 0.1 inch (2.54mm)

We can offer a range of ribbon cable assembly sizes that has an IDC connector on each end of the cable:

We also offer the following ribbon cable termination methods designed to fit all types of wire to board and cable to board applications:

• IDC Socket to IDC Transition
• D-Sub Plug to IDC connector
• IDC Socket to IDC Socket
• Plug to plug type using mini red IDC Male connectors

Using our own ribbon cable press, we ensure every crimp termination is performed correctly and all ribbon cable assemblies are then subjected to inspection and specialised testing using our own ribbon jog cable testers.

All of our ribbon cable materials and components are RoHS compliant and any issues such as flexibility, pitch, temperature and performance attributes can be handled by our competent and experienced staff.
